I mentioned before my goal for 2012 has been blogging, blogging and still more blogging. I’ve recently read some great articles providing information on how to blog, what to blog about and blog pitfalls to avoid, of course all great information and I learned a lot.

BUT…my daughter really got me excited about blogging when she taught be about Ethos, Pathos and Logos from the Greek philosopher Aristotle? What are they and what do they mean?? She’s taking 7th grade Rhetoric and learned about applying “persuasive appeal” when making a speech or presentation.

The definitions are:

Ethos – credibility (or character) of the speaker (or writer in my case)

Pathos – emotional connection to the audience

Logos – logical argument

Why are they important? Aristotle believed these were essential qualities to have in your speech or presentation before your audience would accept your message.

My goal: implementing these in each of my blogs.

If you remember or noticed last Wednesday, January 18th, some sites had black bars across their logos or some were not even accessible. It was because of SOPA & PIPA?

What is SOPA & PIPA and why should we care? Well, I have been reading a lot of different articles and so should you. One of them was from the Wall Street Journal which I liked their very 1st paragraph and they also briefly explained the bill – “It will undermine free speech and due process, says one side. It will protect America’s creative class from thieves, says the other.” I understand the problem, but the reality is how far will or can this go.

I don’t want to sound like I’m against government, cause I’m not. But too much of it, is NEVER a good thing. I worry about how this will effect websites and blogging. It can be a problem for everyone, not just the big companies. I just cut and pasted a paragraph from the Wall Street Journal, in the future could my website be blocked and/or black-listed??

As of today, it sounds like these bills are on hold until a better process has been established. Stay updated and informed, visit AmericanCensorship.org or FightForTheFuture.org.

I mentioned last week some of the reasons why I love WordPress. But one of the main reasons is the value a business owner receives for a low price. WordPress is a FREE software program that is used to build and maintain a website or blog.

The only costs to a business owner would be:

#1-Hosting, Godaddy offers great hosting plans starting at $50-$70/year.

#2-Web designer, I can teach you how to build or work on your own website using WordPress OR I can do it for you.

Please call or email me if you’d like more information on setting up or working on your business website or blog.

I learned to build websites using HTML or what I call hard-code. I don’t know if that’s the right lingo, but for me it was “hard” to learn that code.

I suggest WordPress to all my clients because it provides all of the options any business would want on their website – easier SEO optimization, multiple level menus, photo gallery, blog, the options are endless – but the most important reason that some web designers don’t want you to know…is that the site owner has complete control of their own website. What does that mean? Site owners can learn to add or update any of their own company content, IF they so wish.

Call me if you’d like to learn more about WordPress and it’s amazing options.

One of my 2012 resolutions is to blog more on my website. Besides adding fresh content to my website, my ultimate goal of blogging is to provide information on how to do things within a website or blog. There are so many great websites out there and in order to implement something similar on a client’s website I have to research that “cool thing” they have asked for. Google has become my new best friend.

So how am I going to get started on blogging in 2012? Well I’ve spent the last year reading a lot about blogging and I just gave a presentation in one of my networking groups regarding blogging. I provided some information, tips and tricks that I found reading articles from Hubspot, DIYthemes, and Who’s Blogging What (just to name a few). One of the best little tid bits that I presented is called the 6 Buttons of Social Buzz. Check out my short video and read the complete article from BuzzMarketing.com for more information.

Please share any other websites or blogs that you have come across regarding WEBSITES or BLOGS that you think provide great content and information.

Happy Blogging in 2012!!
